Dungeon V1.0
Written By Giark
Copyright 1994 Fly By Nite Videe-Oh!
Congratulations! You've grabbed yourself yet another fine FBN product. We
strive to keep our releases innovative and bug free. If you find any bugs,
you should let us know.
I'm trying something different here - REAL shareware. For those of you who
haven't been following the FBN saga (Why not? Shame on you!), our releases
have been either freeware or no limit shareware (you know, none of that
annoying `item disabled in shareware version' crap). Well, no one has
bothered to respond in any way at all - even to say `this game sucks,
man!'. So, in an effort to get you to respond and give feedback to us at
FBN, this game is real shareware. That's right, I've disabled the modem
and null features and the size of the dungeon so you silent masses will
have to contact FBN. It's your fault.
Dungeon is a two player (only full version) game where you wander around in
the dungeon and beat up anything that gets in your way. In the two player
modes, the other player does NOT need the program; in fact, the game would
not WORK if you were both using it at once. The other player only needs an
ANSI terminal program set to:
Full Duplex
Word Length 8
Stop Bits 1
No parity
(also written as 8-N-1)
and the same baud rate (bps actually) as you.
The main screen presents a green title bar on a black background. The
default settings are: Solo game (only kind available without registering),
300 BPS (doesn't matter in a solo game. Go ahead and set it to 28800),
Small dungeon (again, the only one available in non-registered version.
Send me mail, dammit!). The selections are shown in the status bar by the
appropriate indicator: Co: for communication type, Sp: for BPS (or baud
rate for you inaccurate dorks) and Sz: for size of dungeon.
Once you've selected your options (register and you will actually have
lotsa options!), press return to start the game.
Solo mode
Just run around the dungeon, pick up weapons and stuff, beat up monsters,
then quit when you're bored. (register or be doomed to this forever)
Link mode
The program expects a Hayes(r) compatible modem to be hooked up and
switched on. It will set your modem to auto answer and then wait for a
connection. Once it gets it, it will send a blurb to both you and your
opponent, get your names, and then away you go. (KILL!)
Null mode
This mode will only work if you have two computers (or two ports on a
multi-port card) linked by null cable. It goes right to the opening
message and into the game.
The Commands
N - move north
NE - move northeast
E - move east
SE - move southeast
S - move south
SW - move southwest
W - move west
NW - move northwest
Get Weapon (GW) - get rid of the weapon you have and take the new one
Get Armour (GA) - get rid of your armour for the shiny new stuff
or swig back a potion
Fight (F) - fight monsters in your area
Run (R) - run away when you get the snot beat out of you
Chat (C) - attempt to contact the other player
Yell (Y) - yell something to the other player
Attack (A) - attack the other player
Help (?) - get this list of commands
Quit (Q) - surrender
Heal (H) - drink a healing potion (you have two)
OK, so the commands aren't complex. You try beating on a dragon with your
fists for a while, see if you want complicated controls!
Well, there it is. Great way to take out your frustrations! Good for
tourneys, too.
Shareware Whining Section
Ok, I am not asking for a lot. Just send me email (Giark) or an actual
letter. Yup, that's all. If you send a letter, though, send enough for
postage and send a blank disk, unless you want to leave your phone number
and I will direct send you the program (no long distance! Kitchener and
local calling area.)
